Pamphinette (Pam) Buisa

Community Engagement Lead

She grew up on Algonquin Anishinaabe territory, also known as Ottawa and Gatineau to parents originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Buisa helped to create Vancouver Island Steps Up, a community relief fund designed to bridge the gaps in the various forms of financial aid that have been doled out by the provincial and federal governments throughout the pandemic. She co-organized a Peace Rally on the territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən, Esquimalt, and Songhees peoples, also known as Victoria, BC with over 10,000 in attendance (online & in-person) and held various anti-racism education programs and events. She is a student supervisor in the Alumni and Development Department at the University of Victoria, where she helps student callers develop and refine their fundraising abilities to support students at the university through scholarships, bursaries, and other funds. She won silver in 2014 & 2016 for women’s rugby. Buisa has suited up for Team Canada on the World Rugby Sevens Series in 2017-18, 2018-19, 2020-21 as well as training for the upcoming Olympics.
